A Golden Nugget for Success: The Mastermind Group (AdminSupport)
posted Wed April 18th 2012 @ 8:46 PM

1- Why should you participate in a Mastermind group?
It’s simple. Collaboration is the opposite of isolation, and the biggest benefit of masterminding is leveraging someone else’s knowledge, experience and perspective.
2- How do you pick the right group? This is the million dollar question, because the wrong mastermind group can not only waste your time but complicate your life. But, like any other relationship, it happens and more than often you will walk away with lessons that will serve you in your next mastermind. When you are looking to choose the right group, first list five take aways you are looking for in a mastermind. Next, ask your perspective mastermind partners the same question. Compare your answers and if the majority of the reasons match up, it’s looking good. Give your group a honey moon period. After 60 days, if it’s not working, regroup and restructure. Life happens so it’s critical to agree on the commitment from all members. A great group to start with is a facilitator led group or an association led group. The facilitator type of mastermind group will have leadership in place that is responsible for the structure and choosing the members. In most cases, this type of mastermind is part of a paid program. The other type is usually based on an association and the participants will initially connect based on the structure of the association, which can remove a lot of pressure on topics and goals. Bottom line, sometimes it may not work but when it does, it will change the face of your business or career.
3- The typical challenges mastermind groups face…responsibilities that come with organizing a mastermind; the commitment of everyone remaining the same; masterminding with others that are at a different level; Strategy versus mindset focus; an uneven level of time spent on each person equally; various levels of focus in one’s business; and the list goes on. Please keep in mind that every single challenge can turn into a success with time.
4- The different types of mastermind groups: career focused, business focused, membership based mastermind, event based masterminds, association masterminds, and really small 1:1 to really large hundreds, online masterminds, community masterminds and the list goes on.
5- What not to do in a mastermind group: Do not join a mastermind in place of being coached, members that take way more than they give will not succeed in this structure; Be honest yet diplomatic; Do not take it over even if you see how you can shape it better; If possible research members before you join the mastermind to make sure it’s a good fit; Commit fully or do not commit at all; Do not steal anyone’s idea; do not share with others what you talk about during your mastermind; Stay positive even you are tempted not to be;
Ok, I’ve shared a lot with you, now go for it and let me hear about your success stories and lessons learned. Read More »
